Museums and Participation: Unlocking the Potential of Things
Tuesday 20 March 2012, 10am – 5pm, British Museum
What can objects do and how can they make engagement within the Museum unique? How can innovative object-based youth participation models be applied to the wider audience?
What’s it all about? Objects bridge the gap between the past, present and future. What can museum objects do and what techniques have been developed to look at their contemporary relevance? What are the successes and challenges of this work?
Objects can be used to inspire people in unique ways. This conference will look at the ways objects capture the imagination of all audiences with a particular emphasis on youth engagement.
Inspired by the methodology of the Talking Objects programme, the day will consider these issues and more. Join us for a series of practice-based presentations as well as theme-based discussions to consider the connection between theory and practice.
Who is it for? Those working or who are interested in working in the arts and heritage field, academics, curators and museum theorists.
